HEIGHT:2 - 20 feet
SPREAD:2 - 12 feet
DISTINCTIONS:Similar to Japanese yew but size and shape variable depending on cultivar; needles dark green above, lighter beneath; moist, well-drained soil; sun or shade.
LIMITATIONS:Subject to wind burn and spider mites; red fleshy berries are poisonous.
HARDINESS:SC, SE (Zone 4)
ORIGIN:A hybrid species developed in Massachusetts.
CULTIVARS:‘Hicksii’ Hicks yew; columnar form, upright branches; hardier than Irish yew; male and female clones; 20' tall. See entry under Evergreen Shrubs.
