DISTINCTIONS:Showy, purple, fragrant flowers in early spring; requires a well-drained, moist, acid soil.
LIMITATIONS:Difficult to grow in cultivation; not commercially available.
HARDINESS: INT, SC, SE, W (Zone 2)
ORIGIN: Mountains of south central and interior Alaska, Seward Peninsula north to the arctic coast (absent on northern coastal plain). East across the Canadian arctic to Labrador; British Columbia; New York, Wisconsin; northern Europe and Asia.
