HEIGHT:50 - 80 feet
SPREAD:25 - 35 feet
DISTINCTIONS:Tree has glossy, dark green needles and a pyramidal-shaped crown; suited to acidic soils, pH 5-7, moist, well-drained, sandy to clay soils; very shade tolerant; bluish-purple cones at maturity; good survival to -40°.
LIMITATIONS:Not long lived.
HARDINESS:SE, SC (Zone 3)
ORIGIN:Central and southern Japan.
