DISTINCTIONS:Rounded form; abundant flowers blooming before leaves, single, pink, 1½" diameter, in clusters; fruit is small (1/3" diameter), dark purple to black, in late summer, inedible; glossy dark green leaves emerge reddish, turn bronze or red in fall; attractive shiny red-brown bark with horizontal lenticels.
LIMITATIONS:Susceptible to disease and insects.
HARDINESS:SE, SC (Zone 4)
ORIGIN:Japan
CULTIVARS:Accolade' smaller tree (20'-25') with open, spreading form; showy flowers, semi-double, 1½" diameter, 12 to 15 petals, budding deep pink, opening blush pink
