HEIGHT:40 - 80 feet
SPREAD:20 - 30 feet
DISTINCTIONS:Flattened, dark green, aromatic needles, silver-blue below; cones purple, 2"-3" long and held upright; young trees form a spire-like conical-shaped crown; grows on a variety of soil types and prefers organic soils with pH 4-6.5; will grow in full shade to full sun; a popular Christmas trees.
LIMITATIONS:Requires high moisture; protect from winter winds.
HARDINESS:SC, SE (Zone 3)
ORIGIN:North Alberta to Labrador, south to Pennsylvania.
CULTIVARS:‘Columnaris’ short branches with tips turning upward creating a columnar habit.; See also entry under Evergreen Shrubs.
