HEIGHT:2 - 3 feet
SPREAD:3 - 5 feet
DISTINCTIONS:Upright shrub, early blooming; lilac to rosy purple very fragrant spikes of flowers before the leaves appear; red 1/3” fruit; full sun to partial shade; prefers cool well drained soils.
LIMITATIONS:Difficult to transplant except when small; needs acid soil; can be short lived plant due to virus; does not tolerate wet soils.
HARDINESS:SC, SE (Zone 4)
ORIGIN:Europe and Siberia
CULTIVARS:‘Alba’ (Paul’s White and Bowles White) white flowers.; ‘Autumnalis’ autumn flowering with rose-purple color.
