DISTINCTIONS:Rounded form; lavender pink flowers in spring; dark green leaves have a pungent spicy fragrance when crushed; tolerates sun and a range of soil conditions; flower buds hardy to –35°.
LIMITATIONS:Protect from dry winter winds.
HARDINESS:SC, SE (Zone 4)
ORIGIN:R. carolinianum X R. dauricum var. sempervirens. Named for Peter J. Mezitt of Weston Nursery in Mass.
CULTIVARS:'Elite' Pink flowers, vigorous, tall.; ‘P.J.M. Compact Briggs’ Lavender pink flowers; tighter growth habit than ‘Elite’.; ‘P.J.M. Lavender’ Early lavender pink flowers; winter foliage mahogany; semi-dwarf. Other Weston Nursery hybrids: ‘Balta’ Pinkish flowers open to white a week after ‘P.J.M.’; ‘Laurie’ Pinkish white flowers just after ‘P.J.M.’; compact, slow growth; red fall/winter color.; ‘Black Satin’ Lavender pink flowers; semi-upright habit; dark fall/winter color.
