SPREAD:4 - 6 feet
DISTINCTIONS:Mostly columnar or pyramidal, although some cultivars are bushy or low, spreading; prefers dry sunny sites.
LIMITATIONS:Needs excellent drainage; most forms turn a dull brown-purple in winter; breakage occurs with heavy ice and snow loads; susceptible to spider mites; needs protection from winter wind; survival in south central Alaska uncertain.
HARDINESS: SE (Zone 4)
ORIGIN: East and central North America
CULTIVARS:‘Canaertii’ Canarti juniper; densely pyramidal; easily pruned; maintains dark green foliage throughout winter; bluish fruits are quite ornamental; grows 10’-20' tall.; ‘Grey Owl’ Low, spreading shrub; silver-gray needles; 2'-3' tall, 4'-5' wide. See entry under Evergreen Trees.
