HEIGHT:4 - 5 feet
SPREAD:8 - 10 feet
DISTINCTIONS:Short, thick needles, medium to dark green; spreading, mounded form; prune upright branches to maintain prostrate habit. Acidic, moist, well-drained soils; shade tolerant but grows best in full sun; purplish cones at maturity; does better in dry conditions than Abies balsamea. See entry under Evergreen Trees.
LIMITATIONS:Not tolerant of wind or high pH; susceptible to air pollution damage and deer and moose browse.
HARDINESS: SE, SC (Zone 4)
ORIGIN: Mountains of southeast United States
