DISTINCTIONS:Large shrub or small multi-stemmed tree that suckers; the species is seldom planted but the cultivars are popular; prefers well-drained rich soils; sun to partial shade.
LIMITATIONS:Cultivars provide most interest.
ORIGIN:Europe, western Asia and northern Africa.
CULTIVARS:‘Contorta’ attractive shrub with twisted stems to a height of 8’; dark hairy leaves also twisted and turn yellow-brown in autumn; can sucker if grafted on parent root stock; food source for currant worm.; ‘Pendula’ weeping cascading form to 8’ high and 12’ wide.
