DISTINCTIONS: | Dense pyramidal growth habit; horizontal branching; soft needles; pendulous, 3"-4" cones with unusual forked bracts sticking out of the scales; tolerates pruning and shearing; prefers a moist, well-drained neutral or acidic soil; full sun. |
LIMITATIONS: | Not suited for alkaline soils. There are several large Douglas firs in Juneau, Anchorage, and Mat-Su Valley. |
