SPREAD:15 - 30 feet
DISTINCTIONS:Form of young tree is dense pyramid, mature tree may remain pyramidal or become wide-spreading; shaggy brown bark; new leaves reddish purple, mature leaves bluish green, outstanding fall color of yellow, apricot and orange; autumn leaves smell like burnt sugar.
LIMITATIONS:Branches can be broken by snow; wrap trunk in winter to prevent bark split on young trees; porcupines like twigs.
HARDINESS:SE (Zone 4)
ORIGIN:Japan, China
CULTIVARS:‘Pendula’ weeping form to 15’.
