SPREAD:3 - 4 feet
DISTINCTIONS:Matted or trailing shrub; deciduous; leathery leaves, upper side dark green, underside light green; white, pinkish or yellowish green flowers clustered at tips of branches; large black fruit is edible but seedy and tasteless; leaves turn bright red in fall; most leaves shrivel and turn brown in the winter, new leaves produced in the spring.
LIMITATIONS:Difficult to transplant.
ORIGIN:Circumpolar at high latitudes
